He was rushed immediately to Manipal Hospital, where doctors attempted CPR for 45 minutes, but he could not be revived. The final autopsy report later confirmed natural causes, ruling out any foul play, and attributed the death to a blood clot in the main coronary artery causing a massive heart attack. His final rites were conducted with full state honors at his farmhouse in Donje, Pune.
