Several big movies across different genres have hit the silver screens this Friday, including South cinema star Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandana's much-anticipated film 'Ranabali'. As this is the couple's first theatrical release following their marriage, fans had massive expectations. However, soon after the screenings began, strong and contrasting public reactions started flooding social media.
On X (formerly Twitter), audiences have openly expressed their disappointment and frustration regarding the film. Many users criticized the weak storyline, sluggish screenplay, and specifically the overly stretched and exhausting second half. Several viewers noted that trimming at least 30 minutes from the runtime could have made the movie a much better watch.
Plot and Audience Reactions
Directed by Rahul Sankrityayan, 'Ranabali' is set against the backdrop of the devastating Madras famine between 1876 and 1878, focusing on British oppression. Vijay Deverakonda plays the role of a warrior named Singanamala Bobbili Ranabali, who fights to protect his village, while Rashmika Mandana appears as his wife, Jayamma. Despite the ambitious historical setting, the storytelling failed to fully captivate the audience.
A user shared a review calling the second half tiring and stating that Vijay's efforts went in vain, though acknowledging that Rashmika's screen presence brought some positive moments. Critics also pointed out that Ajay-Atul's music felt underwhelming, alongside complaints about excessive violence and unnecessary scenes throughout the runtime.
Chemistry Shines Amid Criticism
Amid widespread criticism over the narrative pace, the on-screen chemistry between Vijay and Rashmika managed to earn appreciation. Several fans highlighted their shared sequences as a major plus point, praising Rashmika's performance and dialogue delivery in local dialects. Overall, 'Ranabali' faces an uphill battle at the box office to sustain viewer interest.
