Understanding Foam Concrete Blocks (CLC)

Bricks made using foam spray are known as Foam Concrete Blocks or Cellular Lightweight Concrete (CLC) blocks. This is a modern construction technique that eliminates the need for baking clay bricks in kilns. As red bricks become more expensive, people are increasingly using these blocks for various parts of their homes. The trend is growing because these blocks are larger than standard red bricks and require fewer raw materials like cement and sand.

How These Bricks Are Made

First, cement, water, and fine sand or fly ash are mixed in a machine to create a thick slurry. A special foaming agent or synthetic liquid is mixed with water and fed into a foam generator machine. This machine uses an air compressor to produce a dense, durable white foam, much like shaving cream. This foam is then sprayed directly into the cement slurry mixture, expanding its total volume by 40% to 80% before being poured into molds.

Due to the trapped air bubbles from the foam, these blocks are significantly lighter than standard bricks. These air pockets act as a thermal insulator, preventing extreme heat and cold from passing through walls, keeping interiors cooler.
