Bihar Police Takes Strict Action Against Viral Video Cases
Law enforcement agencies are cracking down strictly on the misuse of social media platforms, especially concerning cases involving the dignity and safety of women. Recently, the Bihar Police headquarters prepared a comprehensive report on viral video cases related to harassment and misconduct against women and girls across various districts of the state.
According to the report, police have taken cognizance of eight major viral video incidents. Swift action has led to the arrest of 18 accused individuals, while 5 minors have been detained under juvenile laws. This robust response sends a strong message to anti-social elements who misuse digital platforms to record and broadcast distressing content.
Over 500 Objectionable Videos Taken Down from Social Media
A vital aspect of this operation has been the removal of harmful digital content from the internet. Police officials coordinated with social media platforms to identify and remove videos that violated privacy and exposed victims' identities. So far, 521 objectionable videos have been successfully taken down.
Invoking provisions of the IT Act, authorities are also tracking down the users and accounts responsible for uploading and circulating these clips initially. For instance, in the Bhausi incident in Banka district, police registered cases against 49 X users and one Instagram user, proving that forwarders and sharers will face legal consequences just as much as the primary perpetrators.
Expediting Justice Through Speedy Trials
The police headquarters has directed local authorities to wrap up investigations within 10 to 15 days. Charge sheets will be filed promptly to initiate speedy trials in these cases, ensuring that the accused face stringent legal punishment without unnecessary delays. Officials emphasize that fast-track judicial proceedings are essential to deter such crimes in the future and provide timely justice to victims.
