Major irregularities exposed in public distribution system
Public distribution systems are established to ensure that every impoverished citizen receives adequate food grains at subsidized rates. However, corrupt elements at the grassroots level often undermine these welfare schemes. A grave incident has come to light from Uttar Pradesh, where a ration shop dealer has been accused of tampering with the food grain distribution meant for the poor.
The issue triggered widespread anger after a video surfaced on social media depicting alleged irregularities at a fair price shop. The footage shows consumers being short-changed, with allegations that the dealer systematically reduces quantities per unit.
Viral video captures alleged black marketing of rations
The viral clip clearly displays the dealer allegedly handing over less food grains than mandated. Locals reported that when they protest, the dealer misbehaves with them. The video also shows grains being transferred from sacks into private bags and loaded onto a tractor-trolley parked outside.
Consumers alleged that thumb impressions are taken for the full quota, but the actual distribution falls short. Complaints have been formally registered with the local Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), demanding strict punitive measures.
District administration swings into action
Taking serious note of the incident, the District Supply Officer (DSO) stated that a strict policy is in place ensuring five kilograms of food grains per unit. The Supply Inspector has been directed to conduct a comprehensive inquiry.
