Political circles have been abuzz following the sudden postponement and cancellation of multiple scheduled tours of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. Amid intense opposition pressure and demands for resignation, high-profile visits across states including Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh have been put on hold.
Major Programs in UP and Chhattisgarh Postponed
According to reports, major events featuring the CEC were lined up in Uttar Pradesh's Meerut and Kashi, where preparations were already in full swing. Programs included an interaction with Gen-Z youth in Meerut and a discussion on digital voter services in Kashi, for which substantial funds and tenders had been processed. However, instructions were abruptly issued to halt preparations. Similarly, a scheduled visit to Chhattisgarh covering Dantewada, Bastar, and Kaviradham in October was also called off.
Himalayan and Northern Region Tours Also Affected
High-level sources indicate that prior to the cancellations in UP and Chhattisgarh, proposed tours to Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh had also been dropped due to unavoidable circumstances. While the poll panel maintains that rescheduling and cancellations due to weather, festivals, and administrative exigencies are standard procedure, the timing has drawn significant political attention as opposition protests continue to escalate.
