CJP's Unique Role as an Independent Pressure Group
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) has clarified its future political stance, with co-convener Ashutosh Ranka indicating that entering electoral politics down the line is not off the table. Currently operating as an independent pressure group outside the formal electoral framework, CJP has found considerable success in holding governments accountable on grassroots issues.
Ranka emphasized that democracy extends far beyond winning or losing elections; it encompasses everyday struggles, basic amenities, and public accountability. While the group relies heavily on advocacy and public mobilization at present, evolving circumstances could prompt a shift toward direct electoral participation in the future.
Demand for CEC's Resignation and Opposition to SIR
After focusing on educational reforms through its 'Fix Schools' campaign, CJP has now turned its attention toward the electoral machinery. The organization has demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, warning of nationwide protests starting October 2 if their demands are unaddressed.
Furthermore, CJP has strongly opposed the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, claiming that millions of genuine voters have been wrongfully disenfranchised. The leadership argues that placing the burden of proof on ordinary citizens disproportionately affects the marginalized, undermining the very foundation of democratic accountability.
Expanding Legal Network and Regional Outreach
To bolster its grassroots campaigns, CJP has initiated a nationwide legal aid network. Recently, CJP Legal Affairs Head Ratna Singh visited Lucknow to coordinate with local advocates and volunteers, ensuring that citizens and activists facing administrative hurdles receive adequate legal backing during protests and public campaigns.
