Delhi witnessed major traffic snarls and security restrictions today as protests at Jantar Mantar disrupted normal life across the national capital. Authorities have stepped up security measures, deploying heavy police forces across central Delhi and putting commuters in a tight spot since early morning.
Section 163 has been imposed around Jantar Mantar and Connaught Place, banning posters, banners, slogans, and public speeches. Police officials stated these preventive measures are necessary to maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents in sensitive zones.
Eleven metro stations shut for security reasons
The impact of the protests extended to public transport, with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation closing entry and exit gates at 11 prominent stations. Commuters faced severe inconvenience as trains bypassed normal exit routines at stations like Rajiv Chowk, Patel Chowk, and Central Secretariat.
The sudden closures left thousands of daily office-goers stranded or forced to look for alternative transport options, leading to surge pricing by cab aggregators and overcrowding in feeder buses.
Traffic police issues strict advisory and diversions
Delhi Traffic Police released an urgent advisory urging citizens to avoid central Delhi routes, including Parliament Street and Sansad Marg. Heavy vehicular diversions caused massive traffic jams across major arterial roads and intersections.
Authorities have urged residents to check real-time traffic updates before planning their commute while police continue to monitor the ground situation closely.
