Sudden Spike in Dengue Cases Worries Authorities
With changing weather patterns across the country, vector-borne diseases like dengue and malaria are becoming a major concern for the general public. According to the latest data released by the health department, 13 new dengue cases were confirmed in a single day, pushing the total number of patients to 154. This rapid surge has alarmed both health officials and local administration.
Officials stated that all newly diagnosed patients have been admitted to hospitals where their treatment is underway. Fortunately, the condition of all patients is reported to be stable with no critical cases. However, the continuous rise in numbers has created panic among residents, leading to longer queues at hospital outpatient departments for fever screenings.
Experts note that the post-monsoon period provides the most favorable breeding conditions for mosquitoes due to stagnant water and lack of sanitation. This is why dengue cases have started multiplying rapidly since the third week of September. The health department has urged citizens to remain vigilant and prevent any water accumulation near their homes.
Record Number of Infections Reported in Past 12 Days
A closer look at the data reveals the severity of the situation. Since the third week of September, dengue cases have witnessed a sharp upward trend. In the past 12 days alone, 79 new patients have been diagnosed with the infection. This rapid transmission rate indicates that strict preventive measures are essential to curb the outbreak.
According to health department sources, these numbers include several patients who originally belong to neighboring districts but sought treatment at local hospitals. Following protocol, hospitals registered these patients in local portal data, increasing the overall tally. The malaria department is now preparing a separate list of these external patients to notify health authorities in their respective home districts.
Additionally, multiple cases confirmed via rapid kits have also been included in the official dengue tally. Alongside dengue, 41 malaria patients have also been reported this year, highlighting the broader threat of mosquito-borne illnesses. The district administration has instructed all hospitals to mandatorily test every fever patient for dengue and malaria for early detection.
Special Communicable Disease Control Campaign Announced
In response to the rising numbers, the district administration and health department have stepped up action. A comprehensive 'Communicable Disease Control Campaign' is scheduled to begin on October 1. The campaign will involve door-to-door awareness drives and specialized teams deployed to destroy mosquito larvae. Officials emphasize that community participation is vital to control these diseases effectively.
District Malaria Officer Shruti Kirti Verma detailed the ongoing operations, stating that departmental teams are actively working in affected areas. Spraying of anti-larval chemicals and medicines is being carried out extensively around the homes of infected patients. Furthermore, family members are being screened for early symptoms to prevent further transmission.
