Bollywood actor Dino Morea has found himself at the center of a major financial controversy as Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) launched an extensive interrogation into the multi-crore Mithi River desilting scam. The high-profile investigation revolves around alleged financial irregularities and the siphoning off of public funds meant for disaster management and drainage maintenance in the metropolis.
According to investigative agencies, the case stems from civic contracts awarded by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for cleaning and deepening the Mithi River to prevent urban flooding during the monsoon season. However, subsequent probes revealed massive discrepancies, fake invoicing, and inflated project costs that allegedly drained public exchequers of nearly 65 crore rupees.
Details of the Alleged Financial Irregularities
The core of the investigation targets the procurement of specialized dredging equipment and sludge pushers from a Kochi-based firm, Matprop Technical Services Private Limited. Investigators found that funds allocated for these vital environmental and infrastructural upgrades were allegedly diverted through shell companies and dubious financial channels.
As the net widened around key suspects including Ketan Kadam and Jay Joshi, scrutiny shifted toward individuals who maintained close associations with the primary accused. Call detail records (CDR) reportedly established multiple lines of communication between key conspirators and the Bollywood actor, prompting authorities to examine potential financial transactions and business overlaps.
Central Agencies and Ongoing Legal Scrutiny
This development follows earlier enforcement actions where central agencies, including the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), conducted coordinated searches across multiple locations under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). As the legal and investigative net tightens, authorities continue to piece together the financial trails to determine the exact extent of involvement of various stakeholders in this high-stakes municipal corruption case.
