India delivered a sharp and unequivocal response to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the United Nations General Assembly's Sixth Committee, rejecting its commentary on India's counter-terrorism actions against terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
Distinguishing Victims from Perpetrators
Speaking during a session on measures to eliminate international terrorism, Lok Sabha MP Biplab Kumar Deb criticized the OIC for failing to recognize facts and differentiate between victims and perpetrators of terror.
Following a statement delivered by Saudi Arabia on behalf of the OIC, India responded firmly, stating that India's targeted operations were a direct response to cross-border terror plots hatched from Pakistani soil. India emphasized that it holds the absolute right to protect its citizens from external aggression.
Highlighting Pahalgam Terror Attack
India brought attention to the tragic Pahalgam terror attack, reminding the global body of the devastating human cost of terrorism. Highlighting the loss of innocent civilian lives, India reiterated that terrorism in any form is the greatest threat to humanity and cannot be justified under any pretext.
Furthermore, India urged the OIC to focus on the human rights violations and suppression of basic freedoms in regions under Pakistan's illegal occupation, rather than making unfounded remarks on internal matters.
Call for Stronger Legal Frameworks
Reiterating its commitment to global security, India pushed for the early finalization of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT). Highlighting how modern terror networks exploit technology for recruitment, radicalization, and financing, India stressed the urgent need for a robust international legal framework to dismantle global terror syndicates.
