Indian Army Conducts Major Highway Landing Drills Near Western Border

In a major display of operational readiness, the Indian Army successfully transformed a stretch of a national highway into a temporary military runway. Situated just 80 kilometers away from the international border with Pakistan, the exercise showcased the armed forces' ability to swiftly adapt infrastructure for combat and logistical requirements during emergencies.

The strategic drill took place in the challenging desert terrain of Rajasthan, where the topography often poses severe tests for military aviation. By utilizing a designated segment of the highway, the armed forces demonstrated their capability to operate seamlessly outside traditional airbases and established airfields.

Bharatmala Highway-911 Serves as a Temporary Air Strip

The exercise was carried out on National Highway-911 under the ambitious Bharatmala network. Local traffic was temporarily halted to allow army aviation units to execute precision maneuvers. For approximately thirty minutes, the stretch functioned entirely as an active military airfield.

Ground control teams and aircrews worked in tandem to execute controlled approaches, landings, and subsequent take-offs. This exercise highlights the strategic value of modern roadways in bolstering national security and maintaining uninterrupted supply and tactical lines during high-stress scenarios.

Rudra, Dhruv, and Chetak Choppers Exhibit Operational Agility

The aerial maneuvers featured some of the most reliable and lethal aviation assets of the Indian armed forces. The armed Rudra helicopter, the utility Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv, and the dependable Chetak helicopter all participated in the joint tactical drill.
