Indian Electric Scooters Surge 450% in Global Exports: TVS, Bajaj, and Ather Lead the Way

Indian Electric Scooters Make Global Waves with Massive Export Growth

India's electric vehicle landscape is undergoing a remarkable transformation, extending its dominance from domestic roads to international markets. Recent industry data reveals that Indian-made electric scooters are gaining massive popularity abroad, driven by rising global fuel prices and the search for affordable, sustainable urban mobility solutions. During the first five months of the current fiscal year, domestic two-wheeler manufacturers have achieved unprecedented success in their export endeavors.

Industry analysts point out that intense competition at home and continuous technological innovation have enabled Indian companies to meet rigorous international standards. Government initiatives and production-linked incentives have further catalyzed this growth, allowing local brands to compete effectively on the global stage.

A Staggering 450% Surge in Overseas Shipments

According to the latest figures, India's electric scooter exports skyrocketed by an incredible 450 percent year-on-year during the April to August period of fiscal year 2026-27. Indian companies shipped a total of 15,418 electric scooters overseas during these five months, compared to just 2,807 units exported during the corresponding period last year.

This phenomenal growth underscores the global competitiveness of Indian manufacturing. The domestic market has also demonstrated robust health, recording 791,325 electric scooter sales during the same timeframe, translating to a solid 114 percent annual growth.

TVS and Bajaj Dominate the International Landscape

Competition in the global arena remains fierce, with TVS Motor Company leading the export tally. TVS exported 6,702 electric scooters between April and August, marking a 262 percent increase from the 1,850 units exported last year, largely propelled by the immense popularity of the TVS iQube.

Meanwhile, Bajaj Auto posted the most staggering growth in the segment, shipping 4,818 units compared to a meager 218 units in the previous year. This staggering 2,194 percent annual surge highlights Bajaj's aggressive global market penetration strategy, with the Bajaj Chetak establishing a strong foothold abroad.

Ather Energy and Other Brands Expand Their Reach

Newer technology-driven brands have also established a notable presence in international markets. Ather Energy exported 3,573 electric scooters between April and August 2026, up from 742 units last year, translating to a robust 382 percent growth. Models like the Ather 450 and Ather Rizta have received positive reception from international buyers.

Additionally, Greaves Electric and Hero MotoCorp (Vida) have begun making steady inroads into foreign territories. These achievements indicate that Indian electric two-wheelers are well-positioned to capture a significant share of the global market in the near future.
