The Declining State Beneath Kalindipuram Flyover
The modern flyover built in the Kalindipuram area of Prayagraj to ease traffic congestion has now turned into a major civic nightmare. Instead of smooth transit, the space underneath the massive concrete pillars has been aggressively taken over by unauthorized vendors, pushcart owners, and makeshift stalls. This unchecked encroachment has severely restricted pedestrian movement and created chaos for daily commuters.
Local residents report that the bustling market atmosphere under the bridge blocks visibility and causes frequent traffic bottlenecks. Despite multiple complaints lodged with municipal authorities, no concrete anti-encroachment drive has been executed here. The authorities continue to turn a blind eye, leaving the common public to navigate through this chaotic mess on a daily basis.
Potholes, Garbage, and Stagnant Water Pains
Compounding the problem of illegal occupation is the pathetic state of the roads beneath the flyover. Large potholes have developed across the stretch, turning into stagnant pools of filthy water and domestic garbage. With no drainage system in place, the dirty water remains trapped for months, releasing a foul stench that makes it impossible for passersby to breathe easily.
Plastic waste, rotten food items, and overflowing sewage have turned this public utility space into an open dumping ground. Stray animals and swarms of flies and mosquitoes dominate the area. The Swachh Bharat slogans seem to hold no meaning in this neglected corner of the city, where basic cleanliness standards are completely missing.
Growing Threat of Epidemics and Public Outrage
The accumulation of stagnant water and garbage has transformed the area into a breeding ground for vectors carrying deadly diseases. Health experts warn that residents living in nearby localities are now at high risk of contracting dengue, malaria, chikungunya, and typhoid. Several households have already reported viral fever cases among children and the elderly.
"The sheer apathy of the administration has made our lives miserable. The stench and mosquitoes breeding under the flyover are making our families sick. If immediate action is not taken, we will be forced to stage massive protests." — Local Resident, Kalindipuram
Public anger is mounting against the municipal corporation and development authorities for their complete lack of accountability. Citizens demand immediate removal of encroachments, proper road repair, and sanitation drives to avert a major health disaster in the region.
