Major Voter List Fraud Uncovered in Karnataka
A massive controversy has erupted in the southern state of Karnataka following the discovery of widespread irregularities and alleged fraud during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Authorities have registered multiple First Information Reports (FIRs) against local political figures, including members of the Bharatiya Janata Party, for allegedly attempting to disenfranchise hundreds of minority and marginalized voters through fraudulent objections.
In the Belagavi district, local BJP leader Ravi Patil and several associates have been booked by the market police station. The action comes in the wake of a formal complaint filed by a local Booth Level Agent (BLA), who alleged a calculated conspiracy to unlawfully delete nearly two hundred names belonging to the Muslim community from the voter registry of Ward Number 12.
Systematic Misuse of Form 7 Alleged
According to the police records, the accused individuals allegedly bypassed standard verification protocols by exerting undue pressure on election officials and submitting pre-filled Form 7 applications. These forms are legally designated for reporting shifting, deceased, or ineligible voters, but investigators claim they were systematically weaponized to target specific demographic groups without the consent or knowledge of the affected citizens.
Furthermore, complaints emerged that forged signatures and fabricated supporting documents were annexed to these applications to deceive Electoral Registration Officers (EROs). The complainant warned that such large-scale deletion attempts posed a severe threat to communal harmony and public order within the region.
Similar Irregularities Reported from Bidar
The controversy is not restricted to Belagavi alone. Similar allegations of electoral tampering have surfaced in the Bidar district, where a local businessman lodged a formal complaint regarding the suspicious flagging of over three thousand voters as 'shifted' or 'absent'. Local authorities acted swiftly, registering cases against more than thirty individuals implicated in filing unsubstantiated claims.

Political Fallout and Administrative Crackdown
The revelations triggered intense political friction across the state. Karnataka Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, accompanied by several cabinet ministers, staged a high-profile demonstration outside the office of the Chief Electoral Officer in Bengaluru, demanding immediate penal action against those orchestrating the deletions. In response to the mounting pressure, the state election machinery has stepped up surveillance, mandating rigorous field verifications before any application to remove a voter's name from the rolls is processed.
