LPG Shortage Alleviation: Government Boosts Domestic Production and Cuts Booking Period to 25 Days

With the festive season underway, the demand for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has surged significantly across households in India. To prevent any scarcity and ensure smooth supplies, state-run oil companies have ramped up domestic production. Refineries are currently producing around 44,000 tonnes of LPG daily, marking a 20 percent increase compared to the August average. This proactive step comes amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Persian Gulf region, which have impacted international energy shipping routes. India, being the world's second-largest importer of LPG, has historically relied heavily on Gulf nations. However, to insulate the domestic market from external shocks, local refineries have accelerated output. Furthermore, the government has shortened the mandatory refill booking period from 45 days back to 25 days, offering major relief to consumers who depend on steady fuel supplies for their daily cooking needs during celebrations.
