Opposition Agitates Against Election Commission: Protests Erupt in Mumbai and Delhi, Police File FIR

The Opposition Launches Nationwide Protests Against the Election Commission

Political tensions have reached a fever pitch from the national capital to the financial capital of the country. Opposition parties' protests against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar and SIR provisions are intensifying continuously. Questioning the functioning of the election body, opposition leaders have made it clear that until their demands are met, this movement will not halt. Meanwhile, local administration and police, citing law and order, remain fully vigilant and are taking strict legal action against rule violators.

Recently, following a massive protest held at Mumbai's iconic Shivaji Park ground, significant administrative action has come to light. The police have registered criminal cases against organizers and around five hundred unidentified protesters for gathering crowds and holding assemblies in public places without official permission. This action has further heightened political turmoil. Opposition parties claim that attempts are being made to suppress those raising their voices democratically, which will not be tolerated.

Mumbai Police Take Strict Action Over Unauthorized Shivaji Park Protest

Mumbai police have initiated a crackdown on organizers and supporters regarding the protest at Shivaji Park. According to police sources, key officials of CJP (Cockroach Janata Party) had formally requested permission to hold a gathering at Shivaji Park on October 2, which the local administration and police department denied keeping law and order in view. Despite this, a large number of people gathered on the scheduled date and raised slogans.

The administration states that loudspeakers were used without permission and main roads were blocked. In this connection, an FIR has been registered at the Shivaji Park police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) along with the Maharashtra Police Act. The police are now scanning CCTV footage installed in the vicinity to identify those involved in the event and bring organizers and key faces within the legal ambit.

Organizers Retaliate: Will Not Bow Down to Repressive Policies

Following the filing of the FIR by the police, sharp reactions came from the founders and organizers of CJP. The founders stated that regardless of how many cases the government and police administration register, this fight to save democracy will not be stopped at any cost. This youth-led protest will continue to pursue its stated issues.

On the other hand, local legal complaints have also been lodged regarding this matter. Lawyers and local residents allege that public peace was sought to be disrupted by ignoring rules. Furthermore, the alleged participation of minor children during the protest and the circulation of their videos on social media drew strong cognizance from the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), which sought action-taken reports from concerned departments.

Tensions at Jantar Mantar in Delhi: Youth Congress Protest and Tightened Security

Apart from Mumbai, the political temperature is continuously rising in the national capital, Delhi. Unprecedented security arrangements have been put in place from Jantar Mantar to the main office of the Election Commission. As a precaution, heavy barricading has been done on routes, and additional companies of security forces have been deployed to maintain law and order. The scope of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has also been expanded by the administration to deal with any untoward situation.

Late Saturday night, high-voltage drama unfolded on the streets of Delhi when Youth Congress workers descended for a protest. When police attempted to detain protesters and put them into buses, workers strongly resisted. The situation escalated to the point where workers surrounded police buses and managed to free their detained colleagues after considerable struggle. Clashes between police and workers were also witnessed during this period.

Sharp Statements and Resignation Demands from Opposition Leaders

The Congress party and other opposition factions have sharpened their stance against the Chief Election Commissioner. Senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram explicitly stated that if the Chief Election Commissioner does not resign from his post, the 'India' bloc will escalate this movement nationwide on a larger scale. He asserted that taking this step is imperative to uphold the integrity of a fair electoral system.

"If the Chief Election Commissioner does not resign, our protest will continue on a much larger scale. This fight will not stop until the dignity of democratic institutions is restored." — P. Chidambaram, Senior Congress Leader

Meanwhile, AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi leveled serious allegations, claiming that the ruling party and associated organizations are conspiring to delete names of selective citizens from voter lists through Form 7. He alleged that under the guise of Special Intensive Revision (SIR), preparations are underway to implement processes akin to NRC through the back door, which will be strongly resisted.

Tragic Death of a Senior Citizen Casts a Gloom Over the Movement

Amidst this entire political drama, a tragic and shocking news emerged. During the CJP protest, an elderly participant of about 75 years suddenly suffered a heart attack. Efforts were hurriedly made to take him to a nearby hospital, but he breathed his last on the way. This sudden demise has plunged protesters into deep grief. Organizers termed it a tragic sacrifice of a citizen while fighting for democracy.

Political analysts believe that in the coming days, this issue may escalate further from Parliament to the streets. While opposition parties have adopted an aggressive stance regarding the Election Commission's functioning and rules associated with voter lists, administrative and legal agencies appear in the mood to enforce strictness against rule violations. Amidst this confrontation, public attention remains focused on how this political deadlock unfolds in the coming days.
