From Rural Roots to FTII Pune
Ravi Raj's journey is nothing short of cinematic. Growing up in Kumirmudi village in East Singhbhum, he harbored a deep curiosity about how films were made behind the scenes. This inquisitiveness led him to Karim City College in Jamshedpur for a degree in mass communication, where his passion for filmmaking deepened significantly.
Determined to master the technical nuances of cinema, he successfully cleared the rigorous entrance exams for the prestigious Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. Training there between 2016 and 2019 gave him a comprehensive understanding of both the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking.
The Birth of 'Angen'
After working on digital projects in Mumbai, Ravi Raj remained deeply connected to his cultural roots and the tribal folktales he heard from village elders in his childhood. This profound connection birthed his Santali short film 'Angen', created with limited resources but an immense vision to portray indigenous realities authentically.
