The Indian stock market is gearing up for what could potentially be one of its biggest public offerings. Reliance Jio, the country's leading telecom and digital services provider, is in the final stages of launching its highly anticipated Initial Public Offering (IPO). According to various media reports citing internal sources, the mega event could materialize by the end of October, bringing great cheer to investors who have awaited this moment for years.
While an official announcement from Jio Platforms Limited is still awaited, preparations within the company are said to be complete. The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) had already cleared the path for the IPO by granting its approval on August 28, following the draft papers filed earlier in June. Institutional and retail investors alike are keenly monitoring the developments as the timeline takes definitive shape.
Expected Schedule: From Anchor Book to Stock Exchange Listing
Market reports suggest that the Jio IPO could open for public bidding between October 21 and October 23. Ahead of that, anchor investors may get the opportunity to place their bids on October 19. The company's shares are widely anticipated to make their debut on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) by October 28. However, the final timeline remains subject to prevailing market conditions and global economic trends.
Recent interactions between Jio management and Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) have reportedly yielded highly positive responses. Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) have also shown robust interest, indicating strong underlying demand that is expected to cushion the offering against broader market volatility.
Utilisation of Proceeds and Debt Reduction
The proposed IPO will consist entirely of a fresh issue of shares. Proceeds raised through the offering will primarily be used to reduce the company's existing debt, with plans to clear roughly ₹27,500 crore of liabilities, either fully or partially. The remaining funds will be channeled toward general corporate purposes and expansion initiatives.
With a massive subscriber base exceeding 524 million as of March, including over 268 million 5G users, Jio stands as the largest telecom operator in India and the largest standalone 5G operator outside China. This robust operational foundation makes the public offering a landmark event for the country's technology and telecom sectors.
