The Indian stock market witnessed a severe downturn at the start of the trading week, as heavy selling pressure dragged benchmark indices down significantly. The BSE Sensex plummeted by over 850 points during early trades, slipping well below crucial psychological levels. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty also plunged, breaking past the 23,000 mark and triggering widespread panic among retail and institutional investors.
Market experts point out that global cues, particularly geopolitical tensions and escalating crude oil prices, played a major role in this sudden crash. Brent crude prices surged past $106 a barrel following a deadlock in international peace talks. Additionally, sustained capital outflows by foreign institutional investors (FIIs) added to the negative sentiment, leaving domestic equities under immense pressure across all major sectors including banking, IT, and large-caps.
