Political temperature rises in Uttar Pradesh as Swami Prasad Maurya visits Rampur
The political landscape of Uttar Pradesh is once again witnessing intense activity as leaders begin strategizing ahead of upcoming electoral battles. Former minister and party chief Swami Prasad Maurya travelled directly to Rampur, where he met with senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan's wife, Dr. Tazeen Fatima. This high-profile meeting has fueled strong political speculations across the state, especially given Maurya's recent interaction with senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in Delhi.
Political analysts suggest that Maurya's continuous outreach to prominent opposition figures points towards evolving political alignments. Although Maurya downplayed the political undertones during media interactions, his sharp critique of the state administration made it clear that the visit carried significant political weight.
Maurya accuses Yogi government of political vendetta against Azam Khan
Addressing the press after his meeting with Dr. Tazeen Fatima, Swami Prasad Maurya launched a scathing attack on the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government. He alleged that the state administration is acting out of political malice and deliberately targeting senior leader Azam Khan. Maurya asserted that authoritarian actions and vendetta politics have no place in a true democracy.
Condemning the government's approach, Maurya argued that keeping a veteran leader imprisoned for extended periods over minor and old allegations is unfortunate. He warned that the precedents being set by the ruling administration today could backfire on them in the future. Maurya reiterated that he stands firmly with Azam Khan's family during these trying times.
"The Yogi government is carrying out a vendetta against senior leader Azam Khan, which has no place in a democracy. This exposes the true face of the BJP, and we stand rock solid with his family in this hour of grief." — Swami Prasad Maurya, Former Minister
Sunday restrictions prevent direct meeting with Azam Khan in jail
During his visit to Rampur, Swami Prasad Maurya intended to meet Azam Khan directly inside the prison. However, due to administrative protocols and Sunday restrictions, the meeting could not materialize. Maurya himself confirmed this to the reporters, clarifying that his primary objective was to visit Dr. Tazeen Fatima—who has served with distinction as a professor, MLA, and MP—to check on the family's well-being.
Maurya emphasized that his association with Azam Khan spans a long time, and he remains steadfast in his support regardless of shifting political tides. He urged observers not to view the visit solely through a partisan electoral lens, describing it primarily as an expression of solidarity.
Dr. Tazeen Fatima clarifies stance, denies ticket negotiation rumors
Dr. Tazeen Fatima addressed the media following Maurya's visit, categorically dismissing rumors regarding political ticket negotiations. She clarified that speculations concerning assembly seat distributions or electoral deals are completely baseless. Instead, she described the interaction as a courteous check-in on the family's welfare.
She noted that neither political seats nor electoral strategies were discussed during the meeting. Emphasizing that her family is not currently focused on elections, Dr. Fatima stated that her absolute priority is securing justice and freedom for Azam Khan through legal avenues.
Family struggles and future outlook
Dr. Fatima also spoke about the hardships faced by her son, Abdullah Azam, noting that conditions inside the prison remain grueling. Expressing her reliance on divine grace regarding judicial delays, she maintained faith that truth will ultimately prevail.
