Intense Gunfire Erupts in Keran Sector of Kupwara
In another successful counter-infiltration operation, the Indian Army foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir. The fierce gunbattle broke out in the early hours of Saturday in the Jumagund area of the Keran sector, resulting in the elimination of two terrorists.
According to military sources, vigilant troops stationed at the forward posts noticed suspicious movement close to the fence. As the infiltrators attempted to cross the border under the cover of darkness and difficult terrain, they were challenged by the security personnel. The suspects opened fire, prompting a robust and calibrated response from the Indian side.
Heightened Vigilance Ahead of Harsh Winter Months
Defense analysts note that infiltration attempts traditionally see an uptick ahead of the winter season as terrorist handlers try to push operatives into the valley before heavy snowfall blocks mountain passes. Intelligence inputs have consistently warned about multiple launch pads active across the border in Pakistan-occupied regions.
Despite these challenges, the multi-tiered anti-infiltration grid established by the Indian security forces has proved exceptionally effective. Troops remain on high alert, utilizing advanced surveillance equipment, thermal imagers, and round-the-clock patrolling to neutralize threats before they materialize.
Recent Successes Along the Border Grid
This operation follows a series of successful counter-terrorism actions in the union territory. Earlier, security forces neutralized four intruders in a powerful blast near the Line of Control in the Poonch sector, which included a top Lashkar-ए-Taiba commander. Similarly, operations in Udhampur earlier yielded significant cache of arms, ammunition, and explosives.

Comprehensive Search Operations Underway
Following the exchange of gunfire, security forces launched a massive combing and search operation across the dense forests and rugged terrain of the Keran sector. Additional reinforcements have been rushed to the area to ensure that no accomplices of the slain terrorists manage to escape back across the border.
