In an era where the race for social media clout often overrides common sense, a chilling incident has emerged from the Indo-Nepal border region. A 22-year-old youth was apprehended by local law enforcement after he used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate and post a fake, highly sensitive video showing a security forces camp being bombed. The alarming clip quickly caught the attention of cyber cells and security agencies, resulting in swift punitive action.
The Quest for Clout Leads to Criminal Investigation
The accused, identified as Faizan Ahmad, a resident of Sevatri village under the Parsamalik police station jurisdiction, uploaded a 9-second AI-crafted video on his Instagram account. The clip depicted a simulated bomb blast targeting the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) camp near the Sonouli border. Accompanying the video was a provocative caption reading, 'Ab karo copy' (Now copy this). Given the geopolitical sensitivity of the border area, the post instantly triggered a high-alert situation among local authorities.
Swift Digital Surveillance and 24-Hour Arrest
Recognizing the gravity of the post, police and intelligence units initiated an immediate digital surveillance probe. Tracking the IP address and the associated social media handle, investigators rapidly traced the origin of the video to Ahmad. Additional Superintendent of Police Siddharth stated that the police forced the accused to delete the inflammatory post immediately before taking him into custody.
During interrogation, Ahmad confessed that he had created and shared the deepfake-style video solely to boost his likes, comments, shares, and follower count on Instagram. He admitted he had no inkling that his pursuit of internet fame would result in such severe legal consequences.
Sent to Judicial Custody
Acting decisively, law enforcement booked the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) within 24 hours of the video's emergence. Following formal questioning, he was produced before a local court and sent to judicial custody.
This episode serves as a stern reminder that misusing AI technology and manufacturing alarming threats against national security for online traction will attract strict, uncompromising legal action from authorities.
