Surendra Koli Found Dead at Haridwar Tea Stall
Surendra Koli, who was the central accused in the 2006 Nithari serial murder case that shook the entire nation, has been found dead in Haridwar under mysterious circumstances. His body was discovered inside a tea shop located opposite the Lalmata temple in the Sapt Sarovar area of upper Haridwar.
Upon receiving information about the incident, local police immediately rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. Authorities have also informed his family members residing in Almora, Uttarakhand, about the unfortunate development.
Local Police Launch Detailed Investigation
According to the Kotwali police, the Sapt Rishi police post received information about a deceased person inside a tea stall on Sapt Sarovar Road. A police team rushed to the scene and identified the deceased as Surendra Koli, a resident of Mangrukhal village in Almora.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Koli had been living in Haridwar for some time, running a small rented tea stall to earn a livelihood. No suicide note was found at the scene, and police stated that the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after receiving the post-mortem report.
The Background of the Nithari Case
Surendra Koli's name became notorious during the 2006 Nithari massacre probe in Noida, where multiple skeletal remains of children and young women were recovered from a drain behind a bungalow in Sector 31 owned by Moninder Singh Pandher. Koli worked as a domestic help at the residence.
Although lower courts had previously convicted him in several cases, the Allahabad High Court later acquitted him in multiple matters. In late 2025, the Supreme Court upheld his acquittal in 12 cases and eventually set aside his conviction in the final pending case, ordering his immediate release from prison.
