When talking about Gen Z today, platforms like Instagram and Snapchat usually come to mind first. People often assume that youngsters spend the maximum amount of time scrolling through these short-form apps. However, a recent report by Google shatters this common notion, revealing that India's Gen Z generation prefers YouTube above all other video platforms.
YouTube Tops the Choice for a Whole Year
According to the 'Think with Google' report, if Indian Gen Z viewers were given a choice to pick just a single video platform for an entire year to spend their time and consume content, their absolute top choice would be YouTube. The research focused on individuals aged 18 to 24 who consume video content regularly.
A major reason for YouTube's immense popularity among youth is the incredible variety of content available in one place. Users are not restricted to short clips; they can explore long-form videos, detailed podcasts, live streams, and independent creator content, combining entertainment with learning.
76% Gen Z Feel Time is Well Spent
The survey data highlights that 76% of Indian Gen Z audience feels their time spent on YouTube is well utilized. In comparison, this figure stands at 65% for Instagram and 57% for television. This shows that youngsters view YouTube not just as an entertainment app, but as a productive space.
Furthermore, 79% of Gen Z use Google or YouTube daily for searches and information, and 93% consider YouTube creators to be more trustworthy than those on other competing platforms.
