Nissan is preparing to make a major move in the Indian SUV market by developing a brand-new 7-seater SUV. Recently spotted testing under heavy camouflage, this upcoming vehicle will share its foundational platform with the Nissan Tekton, but the company promises a completely distinct character and unique styling. Industry insiders expect the SUV to hit the Indian market by 2027, where it will lock horns with established players like the Tata Safari and Mahindra XUV.
Distinct Design and Spacious Cabin
While the test mule was heavily camouflaged, its stretched proportions clearly indicate a longer wheelbase and an extended rear quarter panel to accommodate a third row of seats comfortably. Nissan's leadership has clarified that despite sharing the CMF-B platform with the Tekton, the 7-seater version will sport a revised front fascia, unique grille styling, and boomerang-shaped LED tail-lamps connected by a thick light bar. Inside, the cabin is expected to be more premium with advanced connectivity features and enhanced passenger space.
Engine Options and Expected Pricing
Under the hood, the new 7-seater SUV is likely to feature a potent 1.3-litre four-cylinder direct-injection turbo-petrol engine, ensuring ample power for the larger vehicle. Transmission duties are expected to be handled by a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed wet dual-clutch automatic gearbox, paired with a front-wheel-drive setup. While official pricing remains under wraps, market analysts estimate it could be priced between 18 to 22 lakh rupees, positioning it directly against top-tier three-row family SUVs in India.
