Festive Season Boosts Indian Automobile Market
The Indian car market witnessed an extraordinary performance in September 2026, with country's leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki achieving remarkable sales milestones. As the festive season approaches, consumer enthusiasm among middle-class families has translated into massive car purchases across the nation. The company has reinforced its dominance as the top choice for household vehicle buyers.
Industry experts note that advance bookings and attractive festive offers have successfully revived buyer sentiment. From urban centers to semi-urban and rural markets, dealerships experienced robust footfall, reflecting a deeply positive consumer mindset towards affordable and feature-rich personal mobility solutions.
Record-Breaking Domestic Passenger Vehicle Sales
Maruti Suzuki retailed a total of 1,81,838 passenger vehicles in the domestic market during September 2026, registering an impressive 36.91 percent year-on-year growth compared to 1,32,820 units sold in September 2025. Compared to August 2026, the company also grew by 2.75 percent, adding over 4,867 additional units to its monthly tally.
Company executives attribute this steady momentum to enhanced customer experiences, modern safety features, and a wide array of fuel-efficient powertrain options that cater directly to contemporary family requirements and aspirations.
Strong Growth Across Utility Vehicles and Small Cars
The utility vehicle (UV) segment spearheaded the brand's phenomenal run, registering 78,911 units—a massive 62.05 percent jump over 48,695 units sold in the same month last year. Popular models like Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, and Fronx continued to rule their respective categories.
Simultaneously, mini, compact, and mid-size passenger cars—including Alto, Swift, Baleno, and WagonR—showcased a robust recovery with 91,887 units sold, marking a 24.02 percent increase over the previous year. Eco van sales also grew by 10.01 percent to reach 11,040 units.
Exports and Commercial Sector Maintain Upward Trajectory
On the international front, Maruti Suzuki's exports grew by 4.77 percent to 44,219 units. Light commercial vehicle Super Carry also recorded an 18.09 percent increase in sales, touching 3,414 units, demonstrating balanced growth across all business verticals.
