In a major vigilance success, security personnel at one of the country's busiest international airports successfully thwarted a gold smuggling bid. The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) apprehended an airport loader in possession of approximately 1.31 kilograms of gold, shedding light on a meticulously planned transit smuggling racket.
Suspicious Movement Leads to Interception
According to details of the operation, the CISF's Intelligence and Watch (CIW) team noticed suspicious behavior from an airport loader near the smoking zone close to international boarding gate. Acting on tactical instincts, the security personnel intercepted the staff member for questioning and a thorough frisking.
Initial probes revealed that the loader was interacting with an international transit passenger who had arrived from Dubai and was scheduled to catch a connecting flight to Bangkok. The passenger had cleverly concealed the contraband inside his socks and handed it over to the loader. The staff member was attempting to move the illicit package toward the OOG lift area when security closed in on him.
Oval Gold Capsules Recovered
Upon physical verification, security teams recovered four oval-shaped gold capsules from the loader's possession. The total weight of the seized precious metal was measured at approximately 1,311 grams (1.31 kg).
Following the interception, the CISF handed over the apprehended airport staff, the transit passenger, and the recovered gold cache to the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) and Customs authorities for further legal proceedings. Investigators are now probing deeper to unravel the broader nexus behind the smuggling operation.
