The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Jammu and Kashmir Crime Branch has made a major breakthrough by arresting a key accused in a high-profile land and property fraud case amounting to Rs 93 lakh. The arrest marks a significant step in the ongoing crackdown against financial crimes in the Union Territory.
Accused Evaded Arrest for Over a Year
According to the Crime Branch, the accused has been identified as Ghulam Mohi-u-Din Dar, a resident of Zawalapora, Samson Budgam. His arrest was executed in compliance with strict orders and a warrant issued by the court of the Sub-Judge, Srinagar. The accused had been evading the law enforcement agencies for nearly a year.
Fraudulent Deals Involving Migrant Properties
The case stemmed from a written complaint alleging that Dar, operating as a property broker, connived with co-accused Som Nath Kaul to cheat the complainant of Rs 93 lakh. The fraudsters promised to sell five kanals of migrant land in Drusu, Pulwama, and 300 standing trees in Bijbehara using forged agreements.
Ongoing Investigation to Unearth Full Network
Investigators revealed that a dedicated bank account used to funnel the cheated money was opened on the very same day the transaction took place. While the main accused is now in custody, his accomplice Som Nath Kaul is still at large, with a hue and cry notice issued against him. The Crime Branch is thoroughly probing the wider nexus.
