The Controversy Surrounding Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha
The cinematic landscape is currently flooded with mythological adaptations, but not every project manages to capture the audience's imagination or secure box office success. Following the disastrous theatrical run of 'Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha', its producer, Prakash Mahobiya, has come forward with startling allegations that have sparked fresh debates within the entertainment industry. He asserts that the poor performance was not merely a result of organic audience rejection, but rather the outcome of a calculated smear campaign.
Stepping into film production for the very first time, Mahobiya expressed deep anguish over the circumstances surrounding the film's release. According to him, the few audience members who managed to watch the movie in theaters genuinely appreciated the effort. However, a massive chunk of potential viewers was dissuaded from stepping into cinema halls due to persistent external factors that poisoned public perception well before the release date.
Accusations of Paid Negative Marketing via Influencers
Elaborating on his claims, Mahobiya pointed fingers at the digital ecosystem, alleging that numerous YouTubers and social media influencers were financially compensated to spread malicious content about the project. He stated that his team received credible reports indicating that a systematic paid campaign was launched to undermine the film's reputation across major digital platforms.
The producer emphasized that in today's digital era, online narratives heavily dictate theatrical fortunes. By weaponizing social media influencers to amplify minor flaws and generate unwarranted outrage, public sentiment was deliberately manipulated to keep audiences away from ticket counters, completely denying the film a fair trial by the viewers.
Direct Competition with High-Budget Ramayana Projects
When questioned about the potential masterminds behind this alleged campaign, Mahobiya hinted at fierce industry competition, specifically pointing toward high-profile upcoming adaptations of the same epic. Industry insiders have frequently compared the project with the much-anticipated mega-budget 'Ramayan' trilogy helmed by director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra.
Mahobiya maintained that the production and principal photography of 'Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha' had commenced much before the grand announcements of rival projects. While he stopped short of directly naming specific individuals for orchestrating the sabotage, he reiterated that industry feedback heavily suggested that smaller independent projects are often sidelined through such aggressive counter-strategies by major market players.
Flaws, VFX Criticisms, and Box Office Reality
Directed by Abhishek Singh, 'Mahakavya Shri Ramayan Katha' features an ensemble cast including Anjali Arora, Dev Sharma, and Rajneesh Duggal. Right from its initial casting announcements, the project faced resistance and trolling on social media, particularly concerning certain casting choices. Furthermore, substandard visual effects and controversial promotional material, such as a poster depicting a character from the monkey army wearing spectacles, invited widespread ridicule.
Despite these genuine grounds for criticism, tracking platforms like Sacnilk reported that the film grossed a meager 46 lakh rupees worldwide, rendering it a massive box-office disaster. Unfazed by the financial setback, the maker insists that his primary heartbreak stems from the audience missing out on the film rather than monetary losses alone. Acknowledging his initial lack of experience in theatrical marketing, Mahobiya has announced plans to re-release the film, giving viewers another chance to evaluate the epic on its own merit.
