Amidst a heavy atmosphere in Mumbai, the PL Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy in Prabhadevi hosted the official prayer meeting for veteran actor Nana Patekar, titled 'Athavanitale Nana'. Organized by the Maharashtra Government, the solemn event saw the gathering of film fraternity members and dignitaries, including CID fame Shivaji Satam, actress Varsha Usgaonkar, actor Ali Khan, director Mehul Kumar, and senior bureaucrat Tukaram Mundhe, to pay their final respects.
Patekar had passed away on October 8 at the age of 75 due to a massive heart attack at his Goa residence. The autopsy reports later confirmed the cause of death as a severe heart attack triggered by a blood clot in the main coronary artery. Following his passing in Goa, his mortal remains were brought to his Pune farmhouse, where leaders like Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde attended his state funeral.
During Wednesday's prayer meet, after paying floral tributes, a special screening of his acclaimed films was also arranged. Nana Patekar's illustrious five-decade career, spanning monumental films like 'Parinda', 'Krantiveer', and 'Welcome', remains etched in the collective memory of Indian cinema.
