Video: Triple Typhoons Active in Pacific Ocean, 3 Systems Emerge Together in October After 5 Years

The western Pacific Ocean is witnessing a rare and extraordinary weather phenomenon with three storms active simultaneously. Typhoons Choi-wan and Nolo, alongside tropical storm Koguma, are currently advancing across different parts of the region. According to meteorological experts, the simultaneous activation of three storms in October has occurred after a gap of approximately five years, triggering high waves and rough sea conditions around Japan.

These storms are located at considerable distances from each other with varying intensities. While Choi-wan is moving northward away from the Ogasawara Islands, Nolo is tracking westward, and Koguma is steadily strengthening. Although major damage to the Japanese mainland is not anticipated at this stage, authorities have urged caution and alertness for maritime activities along the eastern Pacific coast.

Speeds and Unique Characteristics of the Storms

Among the trio, Typhoon Choi-wan has been moving northward with speeds reaching around 30 kilometers per hour, with maximum gust speeds touching up to 198 kilometers per hour. Meanwhile, Typhoon Nolo stands out as a transboundary typhoon, having formed east of the International Date Line before crossing over into the western Pacific region—an event previously recorded in August 2023.

Koguma's Potential Intensification and Monitoring

Koguma is the newest among the three systems, originating near the Marshall Islands. Weather agencies predict that Koguma could intensify further over the coming days, potentially reaching typhoon strength by the weekend with significantly lower central pressure and gale-force winds. Meteorological data shows that the overall number of typhoons in the western Pacific this year has remained higher than average, keeping disaster management teams on high alert.
