U.S. President Donald Trump has officially stated that the execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the perpetrator behind the 2009 Fort Hood military base shooting, will not be broadcast live. Trump confirmed that Hasan will face capital punishment by a firing squad as scheduled, while emphasizing that the solemnity of the event requires respecting the sensibilities of citizens who prefer not to watch executions via digital streaming.

In a detailed statement shared across digital platforms, Trump recalled the horrific details of the tragedy that claimed the lives of 13 innocent people, including a pregnant soldier and her unborn child, alongside leaving 32 others seriously wounded. He noted that while streaming the execution could have served as a deterrent showcasing how America deals with terrorists, many well-meaning people would rather not witness such violence through visual devices.

Victims' Families Granted In-Person Access

Although public streaming has been ruled out, Trump affirmed that the immediate families of the victims will be permitted to view the execution in person if they so choose. He expressed that these families deserve to witness justice being served firsthand after enduring unimaginable grief and trauma from the brutal attack carried out over a decade ago.

Reflecting on the historical context of the case, Trump also raised questions regarding the actions of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) during the Obama administration. He highlighted that electronic communications between Hasan and radical cleric Anwar al-Awlaki were intercepted prior to the attack but were mistakenly dismissed by investigators as non-threatening—an evaluation later classified as a major intelligence failure.

A Look Back at the 2009 Tragedy

The mass shooting occurred on November 5, 2009, at the Fort Hood military installation in Texas, when then-U.S. Army Major Nidal Malik Hasan opened fire on fellow service members. A military court subsequently convicted him and handed down a death sentence in 2013. With President Trump's recent directives, the long-awaited enforcement of the sentence through a firing squad is set to proceed without media broadcasting.
