Tragedy Strikes During Political Demonstration in Mumbai

A routine political protest at Mumbai's iconic Shivaji Park turned tragic when a 75-year-old participant suffered a fatal heart attack amid a large gathering. The protest was organized by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) to voice grievances regarding electoral lists and administrative procedures.

Police identified the deceased as Gopalkrishna Subbaiah Pillai, a resident of Thane, who had arrived at the venue to participate in the demonstration. Despite immediate medical assistance provided by fellow protesters and police personnel, he could not be saved.

Sudden Deterioration of Health at the Venue

According to official reports, Pillai arrived at the demonstration site around 4:30 PM. Within half an hour, he complained of severe chest pain. Quick-action by police and bystanders ensured he was rushed to a nearby hospital immediately, where doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Context of the CJP Protest

The demonstration was led by CJP founder Abhijit Dipke, focusing on demands directed against the Chief Election Commissioner regarding voter list revisions and electoral transparency. Large crowds had gathered despite heavy police barricades and security deployment.
