Rajasthan Panchayat Elections Announced: Voting in Four Phases, Over Four Million Voters to Decide Rural Leadership

The Rural Democracy Battle Begins in Rajasthan

Political activity in Rajasthan has reached a fever pitch following the official announcement of panchayat election dates by the State Election Commission. With this declaration, the model code of conduct has come into force across all rural districts, restricting policy transfers and the use of official vehicles by ministers and authorities.

Administrative machinery is fully geared up to conduct these grassroots democratic elections smoothly. More than four crore registered rural voters will cast their ballots to elect district council members, panchayat committee members, sarpanchs, and ward panchs across numerous districts.

Four-Phase Polling Schedule Across Districts

According to the election schedule released by the commission, voting will be held in four distinct phases to ensure transparency and security. While some smaller districts will complete polling in a single phase, densely populated regions like Jaipur will see polling spread across all four phases.

Security arrangements and strict guidelines regarding campaigning and nomination filing have been enforced. Candidates must submit their nomination papers within the stipulated timeframe, and final candidate lists will be published after scrutiny and withdrawal periods.

EVM and Ballot Paper Strategy

The commission has clarified that district council and panchayat committee member elections will be conducted using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). In contrast, traditional ballot papers will be used for electing sarpanchs and ward panchs at the village level, ensuring familiarity and transparency for rural voters.

Women Voter Turnout and Key Issues

With a 50 percent reservation for women in local governance, female voters are set to play a decisive role in these elections. Basic developmental issues including clean drinking water, rural roads, and housing schemes will dominate political discourse as candidates vie for public support.
