Voter List Anomaly in Azamgarh: Same Youth's Name Registered 10 Times Sparks Political Storm

Political Heat Over Voter List Discrepancies

As political activities intensify in Uttar Pradesh, a fresh controversy has erupted over alleged anomalies in voter lists. Samajwadi Party national president and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has raised serious questions about the transparency and functioning of the election machinery by highlighting a peculiar case from Azamgarh district.

The issue came to light when it was revealed that a young first-time voter's name had been registered not once, but ten times across different polling booths in the same constituency. This revelation has triggered widespread debate regarding the accuracy of database management and administrative oversight during revision campaigns.

Who is Vikas Yadav and What Happened?

The core of the controversy centers around 19-year-old Vikas Yadav, a resident of Paranapur village under the Palhani block of the Azamgarh Sadar assembly constituency. Having reached the eligible voting age, he had filled out Form-6 approximately five months ago to get his name enrolled in the electoral rolls for the very first time.

However, verification checks revealed that instead of being listed at a single designated location, his name appeared at ten different places, including two booths in Palhani block, one in Rani ki Sarai, and another in Jahanaganj block, allegedly replacing nine other female applicants. The sheer multiplicity of entries raised immediate red flags regarding data integrity.

Akhilesh Yadav's Press Conference and Allegations

Bringing the matter to the state level, Akhilesh Yadav held a press conference at the party headquarters in Lucknow, where he personally introduced young Vikas Yadav to the media. The SP chief alleged that such glaring discrepancies during special summary revision exercises expose serious vulnerabilities in the electoral system.

He expressed deep apprehension that such duplication could potentially be exploited to manipulate voting outcomes if left unchecked. The party demanded strict accountability and a thorough audit of all recent additions made to the voter lists across the state.

"You can see live that ten votes are registered under his name. While he will only cast a single vote, the remaining entries could be misused. How can we ensure a free and fair election if the electoral rolls themselves are compromised?" — Akhilesh Yadav, National President, Samajwadi Party

Family's Stance and Administrative Inquiry

Meanwhile, the young voter and his father, Jibodh Yadav, expressed complete surprise over the turn of events. They clarified that they had merely completed the routine paperwork initiated by the local Booth Level Officer (BLO) and had no malicious intent whatsoever. The family confirmed that they cooperated fully with all official requests during the registration process.

In response to the mounting political pressure, election officials have initiated a formal inquiry to trace how the duplicate entries were processed into the digital database. Authorities stated that a comprehensive report will soon clarify whether the incident stemmed from clerical error, data entry mistakes, or technical glitches, and necessary corrective measures will be implemented accordingly.
