Strong Start for India at Asian Games 2026
The Asian Games 2026, being held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, has seen an energetic and power-packed start from the Indian contingent. Indian shooters continued their stellar form on the second day of the Games. The men's 10m air rifle team showcased incredible precision to bag a silver medal. Following the team success, young marksman Himanshu Dhillon clinched another silver in the men's 10m air rifle individual event.
Former world champion Rudrankksh Patil also added to India's tally by securing a bronze medal in the same event. All four silver medals won by India so far have come from shooting disciplines, underlining the nation's consistent excellence in the sport.
Success in MMA, Hockey, and Kabaddi
Beyond shooting, Indian athletes made notable strides in combat and team sports. In the women's traditional 60kg MMA event, Suchika Tariyal displayed exceptional grit to defeat Singapore's Teo Hui Hoon and claim a bronze medal. Meanwhile, the Indian women's hockey team decimated Indonesia 17-1, registering their second consecutive win in Pool B, driven by hat-tricks from Deepika, Rutuja Pisal, and Navनीत Kaur.
The defending champion Indian men's kabaddi team also launched their campaign in style, overpowering hosts Japan 49-24. In boxing, Sumit Kundu advanced to the pre-quarterfinals after a unanimous decision win against Thailand's Bunjong Sinsiri.
Looking Ahead
While swimmer Srihari Nataraj narrowly missed out on a podium finish in the men's 50m backstroke, finishing 10th, the broader campaign remains exceptionally promising.
