AAP and Congress Clash Over Credit in Election Commission Protest, Exposing Opposition Rifts

Amid ongoing protests against the Election Commission in Delhi, a new political friction has surfaced. A visible race has broken out between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress party to project who is leading the charge on the streets with a stronger resolve. While both parties are vocal against alleged vote theft and the poll body, a lack of coordination and a blatant 'credit war' over the protest have become glaringly obvious.

The Turf War: AAP Clears, Congress Takes Over

AAP initiated a march from near the Sindhi Academy in Kashmiri Gate towards the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer's (CEO) office. Heavy police deployment was made to thwart the protesters. Police intercepted the protesting leaders and workers midway. In a striking turn of events, as soon as AAP workers moved away from the barricades, Congress workers swarmed the exact same spot carrying their party flags and placards.

Weighing in on the situation, AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj stated that they had joined upon the call of Left parties. He noted that while yesterday's call was by the INDIA bloc, coordination on the ground clearly reflects separate strategies and competing political interests.

Rahul Gandhi Questions Election Commissioner's Legitimacy

Meanwhile, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi escalated his protest by announcing a sit-in at Jंतर-Mantar. He alleged that around 300 MPs from both houses wanted to meet the Chief Election Commissioner, but the request was denied, and police attempted to block their movement.

Rahul Gandhi declared, "Our plan today is to head to the designated protest site at Jantar-Mantar and tell the nation that, for us, Ganeshesh Kumar is not a legitimate Election Commissioner." Despite claims of a united opposition against the poll panel, the on-ground discord between AAP and Congress continues to raise questions about the alliance's synergy.
