A tragic road accident unfolded when a Bolero carrying pilgrims from Kanpur to the revered Maa Sharda temple in Maihar met with a major mishap. Around 3 AM, the vehicle lost control near the Jhuri river, breaking through the bridge railing and plunging straight into the riverbed. The horrific crash resulted in the death of two individuals, while four others sustained critical injuries.
Rescue Operations and Immediate Response
According to initial reports, the victims were en route to Maihar from Kanpur. Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver might have dozed off, causing the vehicle to veer out of control. Due to the darkness in the early morning hours, rescue efforts faced initial hurdles. However, alert passersby and locals displayed immense courage by immediately descending into the river to help pull out the trapped passengers.
Local police and Dial 112 teams rushed to the spot upon receiving information. With the combined efforts of locals and police, all victims were extracted and rushed to the Janakikund Hospital, where doctors pronounced two of them dead upon arrival. The mangled vehicle was subsequently pulled out of the river using a crane.
Victims Identified
The deceased have been identified as 50-year-old Sunil Gupta (resident of Dwivedi Nagar, Kanpur) and 30-year-old Himanshu Singh सेंगर (resident of Gangapur Colony, Kanpur). Meanwhile, the four injured individuals include Rajkumar Gupta (37, from Hamirpur), Gopal Tiwari (42), Deepak Tiwari (35), and Rahul Pandey (35, all from Kanpur). They are currently undergoing medical treatment at Janakikund Hospital.
Local police authorities have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and initiated a thorough probe into the incident. While driver fatigue or drowsiness appears to be the primary cause, further investigation is underway.
