Political temperatures in the national capital have soared once again as Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge hosted an exclusive lunch for INDIA bloc MPs at a popular restaurant in Janpath, Delhi. Top opposition leaders, including Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs and Rahul Gandhi, attended the gathering. However, more than the political lunch itself, administrative preparations and a viral police video have grabbed the headlines.
Heavy Security Near Jantar Mantar and Viral DCP Video
The venue chosen for the opposition meeting is located barely 100 meters away from Jantar Mantar, prompting the Delhi Police and local administration to go into a high-security mode. Barricades have been put up, and heavy police deployment has been ensured across the area. Amidst this tight security, a video featuring a local DCP instructing police personnel on how to handle potential detentions and crowd control measures has gone viral on social media platforms.
In the video, the senior police officer can be heard guiding subordinates to interact politely with the leaders and explain the imposition of Section 163. Specific instructions were also issued ensuring that women protesters or leaders are handled strictly by female police personnel. The Delhi Police has adopted a cautious 'wait and watch' approach to preempt any unscheduled marches toward high-security zones.
Opposition Strategy and Meeting with the President
This heightened police vigilance follows Tuesday's high-voltage political drama where opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and Akhilesh Yadav, were detained after attempting to march towards Nirvachan Sadan. The leaders staged a sit-in protest outside Akashवाणी Bhavan lasting over five hours before being taken into custody. Reports now indicate that opposition parties are planning further coordinated actions and have sought an appointment with President Droupadi Murmu.
Sources suggest that major leaders of the INDIA bloc are likely to camp in Delhi for upcoming coordinated events and potential protests. With continuous political showdowns unfolding on the streets of Delhi, tensions between the ruling dispensation and the opposition show no signs of easing anytime soon.
