Questions are once again being raised regarding the safety of security personnel in the national capital after a Delhi Police constable was allegedly assaulted during a protest. Constable Ankit Kasana, who was deployed to maintain law and order, claims he was cornered, verbally abused, and physically attacked by a large mob.
Mob Corners Cop, Allegations of Misbehavior
According to Constable Ankit Kasana, he was performing his official duty at the protest site when a crowd of around 40-50 protestors suddenly surrounded him. He alleged that the mob first started misbehaving, followed by verbal abuse and physical assault. Due to the injuries sustained during the chaos, he was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital for medical treatment.
Visibly emotional while speaking from his hospital bed, Kasana expressed fear for his and his family's safety, questioning how law enforcement officers can perform their duties effectively if they are targeted by protestors.
Senior Officers Intervene, DCP Consoles Injured Cop
During the incident, New Delhi DCP Sachin Sharma and other colleagues intervened to rescue the injured constable. Reports indicate that DCP Sharma hugged the distressed policeman, comforted him, and escorted him to the hospital in his official vehicle. Kasana has urged higher authorities and the government to prioritize the safety of police personnel on duty.
