In a chilling incident that has sent shockwaves through the medical fraternity, a PG doctor allegedly opened fire at his former female friend and her brother following a dispute over her recent engagement. According to police, the accused, identified as Dr. Naveen Rohila, reached the residence of Dr. Shweta Thakur late at night. The two had studied together in college and shared a long-standing friendship, but tensions reportedly brewed after the woman's engagement.
Multiple Rounds Fired During Late-Night Altercation
The incident occurred around 11:30 PM. An argument broke out between the two inside the house, following which the accused pulled out a firearm and discharged three bullets. The sudden gunfire caused absolute terror in the neighborhood. Dr. Shweta Thakur and her brother, Abhishek Thakur, sustained severe bullet injuries in the attack. One of the bullets grazed dangerously close to the woman doctor's temple.
Both victims were rushed to a nearby hospital immediately, where they are currently undergoing medical treatment. Their condition is reported to be critical as doctors monitor their recovery closely.
Accused Attempts Suicide, Arrested By Police
Following the brutal shooting, the accused doctor reportedly attempted to take his own life by trying to hang himself from a railing using a rope. Failing to complete the act, he fled the spot. However, police teams quickly tracked him down, arrested him, and admitted him to a hospital under police surveillance due to his deteriorating health condition.
Additional Police Commissioner Shailendra Singh Chauhan stated that a formal First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the accused. Investigators are currently probing the exact sequence of events leading up to the shooting, examining the weapon used, and gathering digital and forensic evidence to piece together the motive behind this tragic crime.
