In a major step to combat severe air pollution, the Haryana government has announced a strict policy for vehicles running in the National Capital Region. Starting October 1, vehicles that have completed their prescribed lifespan will no longer be able to refuel at petrol pumps across Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, and Jhajjar.
Strict Monitoring via ANPR Cameras
To ensure flawless execution of these guidelines issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), the state transport department is installing Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras at fuel stations. In the first phase, nearly 775 cameras will be installed under a project worth over 41 crore rupees.
Whenever an older vehicle arrives at a fuel station, the camera will scan the registration plate and immediately alert the operator if the vehicle falls under the banned category, denying any fuel dispensing.
