NCC and Health Department Partner for TB-Free Jharkhand
In a major boost to public health initiatives, the National Health Mission (NHM) in Jharkhand has joined forces with the National Cadet Corps (NCC) to eradicate tuberculosis (TB) from the state. A high-level coordination meeting held in Ranchi laid out a comprehensive roadmap, emphasizing the crucial role that disciplined young cadets can play in spreading awareness and helping identify TB patients at the grassroots level.
Shashi Prakash Jha, Campaign Director of the National Health Mission in Jharkhand, highlighted the importance of community involvement. He noted that while physical distancing is necessary to prevent infections, getting close to the patients' mindset and removing social stigmas are equally vital to eliminating the disease completely. Since NCC has a robust network spanning districts, blocks, and remote villages, their involvement will ensure the health message reaches the deepest pockets of the state.
Mobilizing Youth Power Across Rural and Urban Sectors
Rural and tribal areas in Jharkhand often face information gaps regarding early symptoms of tuberculosis. NCC cadets, with their extensive outreach in educational institutions and local communities, are uniquely positioned to bridge this gap. Col. Rohit from the NCC Headquarters in Ranchi assured full support from all cadets across the state, recalling previous successful awareness programs and stressing the need for seamless coordination between the tuberculosis eradication program and NCC units.
Col. Anurag Singh presented a detailed overview of past initiatives undertaken by the Ranchi Division in TB elimination, outlining future strategies for door-to-door outreach and community engagement. With youth participation turning this health drive into a mass movement, Jharkhand is poised to take a decisive step towards becoming a TB-free state.
