In the rural pockets of Ranchi district, continuous efforts are being made to increase the active participation of women in agriculture and horticulture. Continuing this momentum, the 6th annual general meeting of the Torpa Women's Agriculture and Horticulture Cooperative Society was held at the Kisan Pathshala premises. A large number of local farmers, women cultivators, and agricultural experts participated in the event.
Stepping from Traditional to Modern Agriculture
Agriculture remains the primary source of livelihood in rural areas of states like Jharkhand, but reliance on traditional methods often exposes farmers to weather uncertainties and low profit margins. The cooperative society in Torpa has taken the initiative to connect local farmers with modern and scientific farming techniques. During the annual general meeting, farmers were briefed about drip irrigation, mulching techniques, the use of organic fertilizers, and crops yielding higher production with less water.
Inauguration by Distinguished Guests
The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by chief guests including District Council President Masih Guria, District Council Member Sushanti Kongadi, Deputy Chief Santosh Kar, Mukhiya Shishir Topno, and PRADAN organization representatives Abhishek and Raviranjan. All guests praised the journey of the cooperative and emphasized that the economic empowerment of rural women is crucial for societal development.

Awareness of Government Schemes and Financial Support
A crucial part of the program was to make farmers aware of various government schemes. Often, due to lack of information, people in rural areas fail to avail the benefits of welfare schemes and subsidies. Detailed information regarding agriculture, cooperative, and horticulture department schemes was shared during the meeting, including Kisan Credit Card (KCC), crop insurance, and agricultural machinery subsidies.
Empowering Women Farmers for a Better Future
The Torpa Women's Agriculture and Horticulture Cooperative Society has set an example through its operations over the past few years. Women associated with the society are not only farming but also engaging in value addition such as packaging and marketing of local products. The event concluded with the outlining of new plans for the upcoming fiscal year, reinforcing the commitment to rural self-reliance.
