Public transport services in Himachal Pradesh are facing a major threat as the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) drivers and conductors union has adopted an aggressive stance against a section officer in Chamba and the higher management.
Allegations of Financial Irregularities
Addressing a protest in Shimla, HRTC Driver Union President Maan Singh Thakur accused the Chamba-based section officer of continuous financial irregularities, the burden of which is unfairly shifted onto conductors. The union stated that despite repeated complaints, the management is shielding the officer while harassing frontline staff.
Furthermore, the union alleged that although GPF amounts are regularly deducted from their salaries, the money has not been credited to their GPF accounts for over three months. With no action taken over the last 20 days, the employees' patience has worn thin.
Ultimatum and Statewide Strike Threat
The union has issued a strict 24-hour ultimatum to the administration. If action is not taken within this timeframe, bus operations in the Chamba district will be suspended starting October 8. If the management still fails to act, the entire state of Himachal Pradesh will witness a complete shutdown of HRTC bus services starting October 9.
