A massive controversy has erupted over the integrity of electoral rolls as police in Telangana and Karnataka registered First Information Reports (FIRs) against several Booth Level Agents (BLAs). The accused are charged with fraudulently submitting 'Form-7' applications to systematically delete voters' names from the electoral lists. Under election guidelines, Form-7 is legally meant to object to the inclusion of names or to seek the removal of deceased, shifted, or ineligible voters, but it was allegedly weaponized for mass deletions.
Sprawling Fraud Across Multiple Constituencies
In Telangana, the initial FIR was lodged at the Chikkadpally police station within the Musheerabad assembly constituency of Hyderabad. According to election officials, a political party's BLA allegedly submitted fraudulent Form-7 applications aiming to remove roughly 30 voters belonging to a single minority family. The forms contained pre-filled data, which immediately raised red flags among election watchdogs, prompting an official police complaint.
A parallel investigation is underway in Karnataka. In Bengaluru's Malleshwaram assembly segment, a case was registered following a complaint by a local leader against a BLA accused of submitting 136 Form-7 applications carrying forged signatures. Furthermore, in Ballari, a local BLA faced criminal charges for submitting false particulars targeting thousands of voter deletions, leading local courts to order searches of the accused's premises.
Strict Scrutiny and Investigation by Authorities
Technical investigations revealed that mobile numbers used to upload several of these disputed online forms trace back to the neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh, adding a complex inter-state dimension to the probe. Election authorities and law enforcement agencies have intensified their scrutiny, making it clear that any attempt to tamper with democratic rights and electoral databases will face strict legal consequences. Further actions will be finalized upon the conclusion of comprehensive police and administrative inquiries.
