AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi has strongly reacted to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk's remarks concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that political opposition to the Prime Minister is a domestic matter, but no foreign businessman will be allowed to dictate terms to India or question the nation's sovereignty. The controversy erupted after Musk alleged delays in securing regulatory approval for Starlink's entry into the Indian market, pointing fingers at local conglomerates.
Musk's Allegations and Government Clarification
Elon Musk had claimed on social media that powerful oligarchs were blocking Starlink's entry to protect their dominance, specifically questioning Reliance Chairman Mukesh अंबानी. However, the Indian government firmly rejected claims of discrimination. Officials clarified that Starlink, Reliance Jio's satellite arm, and Bharti-backed Eutelsat OneWeb are all undergoing mandatory security clearances and spectrum processing at similar stages. No commercial operations can begin without clearing these national security protocols.
Owaisi Questions Government's Stance on Foreign Interference
Speaking in Hyderabad, Owaisi stated that despite his constant political opposition to Prime Minister Modi, he finds it unacceptable for a foreign billionaire to write disparaging remarks about India's leadership. He questioned why the ruling BJP administration appears defensive regarding foreign tech giants. Asserting that India will determine its own resource management and policies, Owaisi also criticized the West's double standards on energy purchases involving Russia. He emphasized that the nation's sovereignty cannot be compromised to satisfy foreign corporate interests.
Rahul Gandhi's Jab and Political Reactions
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also weighed in on Musk's social media queries regarding corporate monopolies, welcoming Musk to India with a pointed reference implying close ties between the government and certain industrialists. As political factions spar over business regulations and nationalism, Owaisi's stance underscores a bipartisan sentiment that India's domestic economic and regulatory frameworks will be decided strictly by its own institutions.
