Political Turmoil Deepens in Pakistan Over Governance and Military Role
The political crisis in Pakistan has escalated further as prominent opposition leader and JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's administration. Labeling the ruling setup as a 'fake government', Rehman questioned the democratic legitimacy and electoral mandate of the current regime.
Addressing a massive public gathering, the cleric-turned-politician asserted that a government lacking genuine public support has no moral authority to rule. His remarks come at a time when tensions are running high following the suspension of the provincial government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where emergency measures and governor rule were recently invoked by President Asif Ali Zardari.
Row Over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governance and Emergency Rule
The dismissal of the provincial administration, previously run by jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has triggered intense political backlash. Opposition leaders have termed the move a direct assault on democratic norms and federalism.
Rehman strongly condemned the actions taken against the provincial setup, vowing to resist political victimization through democratic means. Analysts point out that the ongoing standoff between the federal administration and the political opposition is further polarizing the nation.
