Jantar Mantar protest blocked: Akhilesh Yadav says opposition will sit anywhere to raise voice

The political uproar in the national capital over alleged irregularities and deletion of names in the voter list has intensified. Amid accusations of large-scale voter disenfranchisement during verification drives, leaders of the 'INDIA' bloc took to the streets in a protest march towards the Supreme Court. Samajwadi Party (SP) national president Akhilesh Yadav actively participated in the demonstration and launched a fierce attack on the government and the Election Commission.

'Changing venues will not stop our struggle'

Addressing restrictions and police deployment at protest sites, Akhilesh Yadav asserted that shifting venues or clamping down on protest locations cannot suppress the opposition's voice. The SP chief stated, "Jantar Mantar may be restricted, but not dissent. Wherever we sit in a democracy, that place becomes the site of our protest. The Samajwadi Party and the opposition will continue this struggle undeterred."

Accusing the government of high-handedness, he remarked that those who feel weak resort to deploying police forces to hide their own flaws. He emphasized that safeguarding democracy is the prime responsibility of the opposition, and the administration must heed dissenting voices rather than trying to suppress them.

The Voter List Controversy and Demand for CEC's Resignation

The core dispute revolves around alleged tampering and discrepancies in electoral rolls. Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi and Akhilesh Yadav, allege that names of specific voters have been systematically removed during recent verification processes. Legal challenges, including petitions filed by Rahul Gandhi, are already underway in the Supreme Court.

Reiterating the opposition's firm stance, the SP leader demanded the immediate resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC). He alleged that attempts are being made to undermine democratic institutions, vowing that the political and legal battle will continue until justice is served.
